Macara, Ecuador

Gain hard skills in sustainable rural development and agricultural practice through real life experience within a long-term project. Based on our grassroots, biodynamic farm in rural Ecuador, you will see first-hand the development of project that aims to protect local biodiversity, nurture the Ecuadorian community and grow the local economy. 

What's Involved

  • Four rustic weeks in a homestay in rural Ecuador with 3 local meals daily
  • Field-based seminars with 90 hours of instruction from professors and experts in the field. We will cover permaculture, biodiversity and conservation, focusing on zero-waste construction and sustainable rural development bioconstruction
  • 6 credits (90 hours of coursework) to put towards your degree in agriculture, environmental studies, community development and/or Spanish language
  • Cultural site visits out to traditional rice fields and Rio Internacional, a river that divides Perú and Ecuador
  • 4-day beach trip to the small town of Ayampe. Visit Isla de la Plata (the little Galapagos) and unwind in national parks and on gorgeous coastal beaches
